Congratulations Ebak & Nurulatiqah

Friends and family joined newly weds Ebak & Nurulatiqah to celebrate at their wedding reception in the Putrajaya Lake Club (8th Precinct) today. The setting was indeed beautiful by the Putrajaya Lake, nearby the pink Masjid Putra and the backdrop of the Seri Perdana Bridge and Perdana Putra (office complex of the Prime Minister). Congratulations on a new life together!

Note: We had attended Ebak's twin Farouk's wedding reception in January this year.

A Wedding Reception at KGSAAS

During this month of Syawal, every weekend seems about fulfilling invitations to open houses or wedding kenduri/receptions. At noon today A and I attended the wedding reception of the son of my TKC friend Siti (and her husband Dato' Hamzah) at the Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (KGSAAS) in Shah Alam. We wish Zul Hafiz and bride Lilyza, Selamat Pengantin Baru! 

A Purple Wedding in Shangri La

No, it was not purple in the Shangri La of the mystic mountains but at the hotel in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. The bride is a grand daughter of a second cousin so it was good to be able to meet up with relatives, mainly from Kedah. The food was good, enhanced with lobster from Sabah, while the entertainment interesting, with Anuar Zain, Den Bisa and Igal/Daling daling dancers from Semporna.

Wedding receptions/kenduris are always a good opportunity to keep up with family, even distant relatives. You realise that time flies because you do not recognise some of your own cousins any more and think they have grown old! (In fact some times I don't know who the old lady in the mirror is! Well, duhh!)

A Nephew's Wedding Kenduri in Pulau Pinang

We just got back from our kampung in Pulau Pinang, having attended my nephew's wedding kenduri on the 10th May. Wan Haslem is my older brother's youngest son and he recently tied the knot with a girl from Perak.

Our road trip enabled us to use the new Penang Bridge 2 or officially the Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge. It is longer than the first bridge, but architecturally less pretty I think. (An architect would surely cringe at my using the word pretty to describe a bridge!)

We seemed to be the only car on the bridge at times. I guess the bridge benefits people from the south because you get into the island faster. But ... as soon as you reach there, you drive straight into the usual traffic jam to get to town.

My NZ: A Wedding in Blenheim

Rebecca and Ryan re-affirmed their marriage vows at a wedding service in the Church of the Nativity, Blenheim on the 15th March 2014. They had already been wedded six months earlier in New York, USA and this second ceremony was for their family and friends in New Zealand.

In the run up to the wedding ceremony, there was a hen party for the girls (mums included!) and the equivalent stag party for the boys. The girls' party was held at Gramado's in Main Street. It was a fun night with food, games and karaoke.

We helped out where we could at the Wrights' home and the reception hall. We helped fold napkins for the table setting, make carnation posies and fill the special place names with 'R&R smarties'. It was all very light and fun work. Maureen's friend made the beautiful flower arrangement in the two large vases at the entrance of the hall.

The wedding was held at the Church of the Nativity at 3.00 pm. We went to the church with friends of Maureen and Alan who happen to live just opposite our accommodation in Blenheim. Wayne and his wife also happen to be the parent's of Bonnie, one of the five bridesmaids at the wedding service, together with B, Harriet, Hayley and Nicole. The maid of honour was Sarah, Rebecca's sister, and Ryan's cousin Seide was his bestman.

The wedding service was sweet and romantic. Rebecca and Ryan literally danced their way down the aisle after the ceremony, to the applause of all in attendance. The wedding party then proceeded to an outdoor photo session in a vineyard although it was a rather blustery day.

The wedding reception was at 5.00 pm, and the hall accommodated more than 100 guests. The speeches by friends and family (fathers Alan and Jean) of the bride and groom were short but very sweet. It also happened to be Alan & Maureen's wedding anniversary and Ryan's birthday as well so in all it was a three-in-one celebration that evening. Congratulations to all!

The wedding of Rebecca and Ryan was the fitting end of our very first New Zealand trip.  May they be blessed in their life together and may we be able to make more trips to NZ Aotearoa.

Felicitations Farouk & Badreen

Last Saturday, 25 January 2014, saw one of the twin sons of our good neighbour celebrate his marriage with a reception held at the Dewan Jenjarum (MBSA) in Section 11, Shah Alam. Farouk and Badreen, our heartfelt felicitations and all good wishes on a new life together.

A Double Wedding in Puchong

It was good to be able to catch up with family at a double wedding kenduri held on the first Saturday of the year. We had no problems finding our way to Puchong Perdana for the occasion. Only I had problems identifying the hostess, Rahani Ahmad, widow of my late cousin Mohd Alam. I have not met her for a very long time so cannot really remember her face. But it was easy enough to identify one of her sons (one of the grooms in fact) because he looked so much like his grandfather, my uncle Shaari.

Wani Wedded, Bibah Betrothed

A week ago, the family got together in Seberang Perai to celebrate a wedding and a betrothal. My niece Wani was wedded to her beau on the evening of 22 November 2013 at her father's/my brother's house. The next day saw the Majlis Perkahwinan (wedding kenduri/reception) being held in a Dewan in Seberang Jaya. To Wani & Hafiz, our "Felicitations and all the very best for a new life together"!

A Wedding in TTDI

On the 22nd September 2013, we attended the wedding reception of Irwan Shahrizal, son of a former TKC classmate, Kazi (& her late husband Datuk Dr. Zainal Aznam). The kenduri was held at her home in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, in true Malay traditional style.

Kazi's artistic talent is apparent from the picture above of the wedding invitation card that she designed and drew herself. Compare it to the photo below of the groom and his bride Nur Mazuina, that I took at their makan beradat and you will agree that the likeness is obvious. Nice work, Kazi. Congratulations to the wedding couple and their parents. 'Semoga kekal bahagia hingga ke anak cucu ...'

Recently in early April we were invited to the wedding reception of the only son of an old friend from my USM days. So for me it was also a reunion of sorts with some other friends from my old workplace up  north. Dr Luqman and Razlin Dawina's marriage was celebrated at DoubleTree by Hilton @ The Intermark. Snapshots: Weddings of Yesteryears

'Tis the wedding season and every weekend is filled with invitations to wedding kenduris (feasts) and receptions. The wedding kenduris of yesteryears used to be very much a gotong-royong (co-operative) affair by the whole village or housing estate. But I guess not so much anymore with food now being 'catered' and kenduris held mostly away from home, in community halls, etc. Then there are the hotel affairs - some receptions, I'm sure you'll agree with me, are way over the top!

Anyway, I was looking through my collection of black & white photos (some inherited from Ba, my father), and found some old and interesting wedding pictures. I hope you enjoy looking at them.
