Catching up with PP Friends

Spending the recent Hari Raya holidays in Pulau Pinang recently gave us the opportunity to catch up with some friends there. On the first day of Eid, after meeting up with family over a good lunch, we later had a sumptuous dinner of lamb mandi and chicken mandi, etc. at Mona's in Sungai Ara (or Ara River, if you like). Mona is the mother of B's good friends Faten and Shereen, and my younger sister R's contemporary. Thank you Faten for fulfilling the 'bidan terjun' request of dinner that night. It was most deelicious!

The next day M and I went to RB and Farouk's open house in Gelugor. RB is formerly Chief Librarian of Universiti Sains Malaysia (and so my ex-boss), and also a friend from way back (1976).

Another dear friend is FD, my older sister CY's contemporary from our Methodist Girls' School days and my work colleague at USM. On the third Eid, we made a date to meet at the Hotel Royal (formerly Sheraton) and then walk to Lorong Swatow to eat the Mee Sultan (on B's list of Penang foods to savour). I discovered that a new Food Court has replaced what used to be a few push carts in the lane.

Later in the evening we met up with our friends PQ and Dr KD at the Penang Club (established in 1868 as the Pinang Club), where we had a nice 'colonial' dinner of fish and chips, caesar salad, etc. Then they graciously invited us back to their beautiful new apartment by the sea for more after-dinner snacks and drinks.

It is always nice to be able to make time for family and friends, but sometimes there are constraints ... Such is life!
