Snapshots: Macarons

'A macaron is a French sweet meringue-based confection made with egg white, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food colouring. The filling is butter-cream, ganache or jam, sandwiched between two biscuits. (The name is derived from the Italian word macarone, maccarone or maccherone, the Italian meringue. Flavours range from the traditional raspberry, chocolate) to the new (foie gras, matcha).'

Food history: In Paris, the Laduree chain of pastry shops has been known for its macarons for about 150 years. Do you know that March 20 is Macaron Day? It was started in 2005 by La Maison Pierre Herme in Paris and has become a global tradition whereby a free sample macaron is given out to customers and a percentage of additional sales given to charity.Ref: Wikipedia

The above snapshots I took are of macarons from Betjeman & Barton; marchands de the` a` Paris depuis 1919. They opened recently at 1 Utama.
