Its the beginning of April and the Sakura or cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Japan. I wish I was there enjoying their transient beauty but I am not. So, I did the next best thing and looked through the numerous photos I took while there in April 2012, and post some of them here.
These were taken in Ueno Park, Tokyo.

Snapshots: Sunrise over Shah Alam
Sunrise and sunset are magical times especially when a myriad of colours abound in the sky. I have always found dawn and dusk fascinating. Here is what I captured of a beautiful sunrise over Shah Alam recently.

Snapshots: Macarons
'A macaron is a French sweet meringue-based confection made with egg white, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food colouring. The filling is butter-cream, ganache or jam, sandwiched between two biscuits. (The name is derived from the Italian word macarone, maccarone or maccherone, the Italian meringue. Flavours range from the traditional raspberry, chocolate) to the new (foie gras, matcha).'
Food history: In Paris, the Laduree chain of pastry shops has been known for its macarons for about 150 years. Do you know that March 20 is Macaron Day? It was started in 2005 by La Maison Pierre Herme in Paris and has become a global tradition whereby a free sample macaron is given out to customers and a percentage of additional sales given to charity.Ref: Wikipedia
The above snapshots I took are of macarons from Betjeman & Barton; marchands de the` a` Paris depuis 1919. They opened recently at 1 Utama.

Taking off from Bayan Lepas International Airport
To balik kampung or to 'go home' (back to my village) in Pulau Pinang, the options are to fly, take a train (and ferry) or make a road trip. All travel options are interesting enough to experience, and I have done them all.
The snapshot on the left I took about three years ago (in 2011) as we were about to take off from the Bayan Lepas International Airport after celebrating Hari Raya (Eid Fitr) in the kampung.
Firefly flights from Pulau Pinang go to the Subang Skypark, not KLIA. Then it is a short taxi ride back to Shah Alam where we live.
How do you balik kampung? Maybe you don't because you already live in your kampung, lucky you! But then again, maybe you don't because not everyone is lucky enough to have a kampung to go 'home' to. Ces't la vie!
