Our pretty desserts including Herme's Ispahan (CNB 2014) |
A French friend took us to Laduree in Avenue de Champs-Elysees for our Sunday lunch. The Laduree famous for their supposedly 'to die for' macarons. Talking about macarons, actually although I do love macarons, I am not quite a 'macaron junkie' and it need not be Laduree luxury macarons pour moi. The ones at Whisk in Empire Gallery Subang Jaya, are good enough for me. But some food bloggers swoon over Laduree and our friend pointed out the mother-daughter duo next to our table who were almost squealing to prevent the other from getting a bite of her precious dessert. Rather pretentious, non? But then it is said to happen often in Laduree!
Okay, about the main course. I can't remember the fancy French name for my dish but it was salmon (again) that was ... nice, but not spectacular. Else I would still remember. However the desserts we had were so pretty and sweet. And they came in pretty pastel plates that even looked good enough to eat! For the price we paid for the meal there, we should have been allowed to take home the pretty pastel plates! Anyway the ambiance was ... cosy, and umm ... elegant. (I have just realised that space seems to be a problem in French eateries. Sometimes you can hardly move around the tables which are placed so close to each other.)

The Laduree building had beautiful detailing in celadon green and gold - so French, so elegant (again this is a word you will be seeing often, how else can you describe Parisian anything?). Then there was the very complementary pink and gold covered strawberry macaron window display in collaboration with Nina Ricci. Anyway are you willing to pay about RM45 for a box of six mini macarons from Laduree? If you are, why?
