Pasar Tani Mega, Shah Alam

The Pasar Tani Mega or Mega Agro/Farmers Market in Shah Alam (in front of Malawati Stadium) is the best place for your weekly shopping of fish, meat, chicken, fruits and vegetables. We usually go around 7.30-8.00 am, first having breakfast there before going around to buy whatever we wanted. Breakfast fare? Everything you can think of - nasi lemak, sup 'gear box', cakes and kueh of all kinds including my favourite, akok, noodles of all kinds, etc., etc., etc.

Savoury kueh cara berlauk in the making (CNB 2011)

Kueh cinta sayang (CNB 2011)

In the seafood section, everything is so fresh (and alive, sometimes!). We watched how the Patin fish is 'fished' from a large plastic tub, knocked out with a mallet, and then cut into small pieces for a customer. The catfish, all gutted out, but still 'alive and kicking'! Crabs, prawns, cuttlefish, clams and all kinds of fish; just take your pick. Most certainly, these are so much fresher than what you buy from supermarkets.

Cockles so fresh, they even stick out their 'tongues' at you (CNB 2011)

Catfish so fresh, this plateful still wriggle about for > 10 mins.
after being beheaded and gutted! (CNB 2011)

Vegetables/Ulam (herbs), whatever you want, you can get. I admit, some I have never before eaten in my life. So when I can, I try to buy a 'new' vegetable or herb, ask how its cooked/eaten and then take it home for my lunch or dinner table.

Yellow and red tomatoes, green cucumbers (CNB 2011)

Vegetables/ulam of all kinds (CNB 2011)

Pretty pink bunga kantan (CNB 2011)

Fruits of many kinds are also available, so take your pick.

This man will skillfully peel these pomelo for you (CNB 2011)

Pisang emas and pisang berangan, I think! (CNB 2011)

Red jambu air, green/yellow star fruit and green guava (CNB 2011)

Chicken and other meats sold here are nice and fresh, even including the ayam pencen or ayam tua! (hey, who says pencen = tua or vice versa?).

Golden ayam pencen aka ayam tua already singed
for you to take home (CNB 2011)

Other than food at the Pasar Tani Mega, the Bazarena Shah Alam also has everything else under the sun (literally). There are clothes, plants, pets, etc. The 'car boot' section has used car accessories, antiques (maybe, maybe not), even stuff from Ikea!

Fish in their 'apartments' ready for you to take home as pets
(CNB 2011)

I try to visit the Pasar Tani/Bazarena at least once a month. It never disappoints!
